ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta’s VA Medical Center has named a new assistant director.

The Department of Veterans Affairs said Friday that Robert D. Evans will fill the post. Evans previously served as the medical center’s chief chaplain, acting assistant director and acting associate director.

Evans served in the U.S. Navy for more than 25 years in May 2008 at the rank of captain. Evans said in a statement released by the department that he believes his military service has prepared him for his new position.

In his new role, Evans will oversee the following departments: engineering, environmental management, police, safety, emergency management, customer service, medical media, prosthetics services, information technology and canteen.
