HONOLULU (AP) - A Coast Guardsman will be imprisoned for five years after being convicted of committing a lewd act on a minor on Oahu.

The Coast Guard says Petty Officer 1st Class Shane Reese was found guilty Thursday during a general court-martial in Honolulu.

He was found guilty of making threats to the victim and making false official statements during the investigation.

Defense attorney Tim Bilecki called the verdict a travesty of justice. He says Reese will appeal.

Reese is being dishonorably discharged. He will forfeit all pay and allowances and be demoted to the military’s lowest enlisted grade.

Reese was an Air Station Barbers Point aviation maintenance technician at the time of the offenses.

Reese pleaded guilty to wrongful possession, distribution and use of marijuana at an earlier hearing.
