LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) - A man who attacked his estranged wife with pepper spray and a stun gun at her Longmont home, kidnapped their young son and fled the country has been sentenced to 36 years in prison.

The Longmont Times-Call reports (https://bit.ly/1v4ZZLC ) 52-year-old Monty Turner was sentenced Friday and ordered not to have any contact with his son. Turner previously pleaded guilty to second-degree kidnapping, felony menacing, using a stun gun and violation of custody.

Investigators say he attacked his wife on May 25, 2013, and fled to Canada with their then 3-year-old son. The father and son were found the following day at a motor lodge in Manitoba, Canada.

Turner’s father, 74-year-old Ronald Turner, was sentenced in June to 27 years in prison for helping with the kidnapping.
