CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Federal prosecutors in the northern district of West Virginia collected more than $13 million in criminal and civil fines and penalties in the last fiscal year.
U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld says the northern district’s collections included nearly $5.4 million in civil actions, $957,000 from criminal actions and $1.5 million from civil and criminal asset forfeitures.
In the southern district, U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin’s office did not respond to requests for collection numbers.
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said the Justice Department collected $24.7 billion nationally in the 2014 fiscal year that ended Sept. 30.
