JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi Supreme Court declined Thursday to hear an appeal from a Carriere, Mississippi, man who was sentenced to two life terms without parole after being convicted of failure to stop a motor vehicle and aggravated assault on a police officer during a 2009 escape from jail.
Scooter Robinson was sentenced in 2012 in Hancock County as a habitual offender. Prosecutors say Robinson had six previous felony convictions.
Robinson was serving a 12-year sentence for escape from the Pearl River County jail the day before the police chase in Lakeshore on Jan. 17, 2009. He had fled from police custody at a Picayune hospital.
The assault count stemmed from his dragging an officer who had reached into Robinson’s car to get the keys at a roadblock.
