BRANFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Massachusetts man has been charged after striking two Branford police officers with what they called a stolen vehicle.

Police said Michael Lear of Hull, Massachusetts, was arrested Saturday morning in Branford. Police were investigating a suspicious vehicle on East Main Street that they said was reported stolen in Wethersfield.

Lear became combative when they tried arresting him. He got back into the vehicle and allegedly hit both officers while driving off. They suffered injuries to their arms and legs.

One officer pursued Lear and provided a description to other officers. Lear was found outside a supermarket and was arrested after another struggle.

He was charged with second-degree assault, assault on a peace officer, second-degree larceny and other crimes.

He’s being held on $250,000 bond. He’s due in court Monday.
