JONESBORO, La. (AP) - A 14-year-old from Quitman is dead after a single vehicle crash in Jackson Parish.

KNOE-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1xOnMBG ) the crash happened at 11:51 p.m. Friday just north of Louisiana Highway 4.

A 15-year-old from Jonesboro was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado south when the vehicle left the road and overcorrected. Authorities say the teenager tried to regain control of the vehicle, but crossed over both lanes of the road before going off the road to the right and hitting a tree.

Neither the driver nor passenger was wearing a seatbelt.

The 14-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

State police did not release either teenager’s name.

Police are still investigating the crash, and waiting on toxicology reports.
