MAHOPAC, N.Y. (AP) - About 800 veterans are being feted and thanked for their service at an early Thanksgiving dinner in New York’s Hudson Valley.

State Sen. Greg Ball and the Purple Heart Homes Association hosted Saturday’s event at the Putnam National Golf Club in Mahopac (MAY’-oh-pak).

Ball says about 600 volunteers helped cook and serve the 100 turkeys and trimmings. All the food is donated.

Ball is a Republican who chairs the Senate’s Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee. He calls the annual Thanksgiving dinner “a small way to pay tribute.”

It brings together veterans from around the region and veterans of different conflicts over the decades.
