HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Three days after neighbors got a 24-year-old Beaufort County woman out of her burning apartment, she died of her injuries.

The Island-Packet reports (https://bit.ly/1tb4Zdn ) Christina Ryan-Henegar of Lady’s Island died Friday morning at an Augusta, Georgia, hospital.

Angel Ryan says doctors were amazed her daughter survived until her 29-year-old brother Drew, who lives in China, was able to get to the hospital to say good-bye.

Angel Ryan says her daughter worked at The Larew Dance Centre on Lady’s Island and in performing arts at the University of South Carolina Beaufort. She had recently returned from China, where she spent 18 months teaching English. She had also traveled to Thailand and Panama.

Ryan says candlelight vigils were held in 17 countries Thursday, and friends plan to spread her ashes in each.
