COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - More than 1,700 of Colorado’s highest-paid state employees are making more than $100,000 a year.

The Colorado Springs Gazette (https://tinyurl.com/n8vaeqo ) says an analysis of state employee compensation shows the judicial branch tops the list with nearly 500 employees in that salary range. The Colorado Department of Transportation has about 160 employees making six figures a year.

There are about 31,000 state employees who make an average of about $52,000 a year. That excludes the higher education system and some people working in school districts or district attorney’s offices.
