BRISBANE, Australia (AP) - Brisbane Roar coach Mike Mulvey was fired Sunday just six months after leading the club to its second consecutive A-League title.

The Manchester, England-born Mulvey, last season’s coach of the year, has watched the Roar win only one of their first six matches this season, including a 1-0 loss to the Melbourne Victory on Friday.

Roar managing director Sean Dobson announced Mulvey’s sacking on Sunday, saying it followed a review of off-season activities as well as the team’s poor season start.

Australian media report that former Netherlands international Frans Thijssen is expected to replace Mulvey.
