BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) - Hancock County officials will ask the state for permission to move $1.6 million in unused hurricane recovery funds to help support other projects.

The largest amount of unused cash is in the government annex facility fund. Other projects which had additional cash include the Lakeshore Community Center, the Stennis Airport Hangar project, and the Mississippi Highway 607 expansion project.

Before the money can be spent, the county must get approval from the Mississippi Development Authority, which administers the federal grants for the state.

Supervisors want to use the money for a new sports complex, the county’s E911 dispatch center and other projects.
