PHOENIX (AP) - Police say a suspect shot a man at a Phoenix car wash and then took a seat on the ground nearby.

Phoenix police spokesman James Holmes says the male victim was at a car wash near 3rd Street and McDowell Road on Sunday around 2:30 p.m. when a man walked up to him and shot him.

Holmes says the suspect walked a short distance and sat down under a tree with the weapon.

Responding officers were able to convince him to surrender after some short negotiations.

Holmes says it appears the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Police are still trying to determine the motive for the shooting as well as any possible connection between the victim and suspect.

The investigation is still ongoing.
