NEW YORK (AP) - New York City officials say a contract agreement has been reached for about 5,000 school custodians.

The nine-year agreement covers Oct. 22, 2007 through Oct. 21, 2016.

The contract includes 18 percent in raises over the contract term and a $1,000 bonus. It also includes guaranteed health care savings.

The agreement is for $211 million. When that’s offset by the health care savings, the net cost of the contract is $190 million.

The cleaners and handypersons work primarily in public schools, but are not employees of the city.
