REVERE, Mass. (AP) - Police are investigating after two dead puppies were found in a trash bag behind a Revere gas station.

A landscaper told police about the trash bag on Saturday night when he went to pick up bags of leaves he left there the previous day. He told police one bag felt a bit too heavy, so he looked inside and found the dogs.

Lt. Amy O’Hara says there were no obvious signs of trauma on the pit bull-mix puppies and it remains unclear whether a crime was committed.

The puppies are estimated to be between six-and eight weeks old.

Necropsies are scheduled.

The Animal Rescue League is assisting in the investigation.
