FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a 40-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter were killed when their SUV was hit from behind, sent into a light pole and burst into flames at a Fresno intersection.

Police tell the Fresno Bee (https://bit.ly/15bYcek) on Sunday that the girl’s father, her brother and the brother’s girlfriend who were also in the Nissan Pathfinder came away with only moderate injuries.

Police say the SUV was at a red light when a speeding suspect tried to squeeze between it and a truck sitting next to it. The car instead hit the SUV, which ran into the light pole and caught fire.

Fresno police arrived to find the car engulfed in flames and to learn two people were still inside. They were declared dead at the scene.

The suspect fled on foot and was found at his nearby apartment and arrested.
