RHINEBECK, N.Y. (AP) - A Hudson Valley woman has died after being accidentally struck by her husband’s car.

Police in Rhinebeck tell local media outlets the accident occurred Sunday afternoon. An investigation determined that after letting his wife out of the car, the husband mistakenly placed the vehicle in drive instead of reverse and struck her while she was standing in the street.

Rhinebeck firefighters and police officers were called to the scene shortly after noon. The woman, who was not immediately identified, was taken to Northern Dutchess Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The man was treated and released from the hospital.
