PINE RIDGE, S.D. (AP) - Funeral arrangements are planned this week for an 8-year-old girl killed by a pack of dogs on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

KOTA-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1xTce07 ) a wake is scheduled for Jayla Rodriguez Monday afternoon at Rapid City’s Mother Butler Center. A second wake is planned Tuesday afternoon at the Paul “Dizzy” Trout Memorial Field House in Pine Ridge before her funeral there Wednesday morning.

Jayla was killed Tuesday while sledding near a housing complex.

Friends, family and supporters gathered for a memorial walk in Pine Ridge Saturday, where mourners sang and released balloons in the girl’s memory. Her grandmother and father say she loved sports and animals and wanted to become a veterinarian.

Grandmother Jody Brewer says the family is in great pain but appreciates the community’s support.
