WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - Waterloo police have arrested a man who they say beat an acquaintance’s puppy.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1uw1kGe ) the 32-year-old man was arrested over the weekend on a complaint of animal abuse.

Witnesses tell police they heard the assault take place in a basement of an area home and that the suspect was the only person in the room. Police say the 6-month-old terrier mix named Zeke suffered broken teeth, a bloody nose and an eye injury. They say blood was splattered on the floor, walls and a pipe.

It’s unclear how the suspect knows the dog’s owner.

Animal abuse is punishable by up to two years in jail.
