CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (AP) - An upstate New York school bus driver who officials say did not follow safety protocols has resigned.

The Canandaigua Daily Messenger reports (https://bit.ly/1v27G3X ) that the driver failed to notice a student who was left on a school bus Thursday afternoon. The student eventually left the bus in the district’s transportation center, and transportation personnel notified the student’s mother.

Canandaigua school Superintendent Lynne Erdle says the student was believed to be on the bus no longer than half an hour and was immediately returned home in a school vehicle.

Erdle says the student, whose age was not given, was never in actual danger and did not appear to be harmed emotionally.
