FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Police in Fayetteville say a woman has died in a house fire.

Police told local media outlets that 56-year-old Loretta Archer died after the fire Sunday morning.

Fayetteville firefighters said there was heavy fire and smoke at the home when they arrived shortly before 6:30 a.m.

A man who had been in the home told firefighters another person was inside.

Archer was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where she died.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
