NEW YORK (AP) - The families of New York-area first responders killed in the line of duty are being honored at a Thanksgiving breakfast.

More than 1,300 children and other family members are taking part in the breakfast Thursday.

It’s timed to the start of the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.

Dignitaries expected at the event include Police Commissioner William Bratton, Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro (NY’-GROH) former Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

The 14th annual breakfast will be held in Bryant Park in Manhattan and is free to the families.

It’s being hosted by The National Law Enforcement and Firefighters Children’s Foundation.

The foundation also is awarding a scholarship to a child of a New York-area firefighter or law enforcement agent killed in the line of duty.
