SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities say a fiery semitrailer crash left a man with critical injuries and briefly closed part of Interstate 15 near Spanish Fork Friday.

Police say the semitrailer hauling gasoline exploded after it drove off the exit ramp to U.S. Highway 6 and rolled down an embankment. The crash sent up a large plume of black smoke visible for miles.

The Utah Highway Patrol says the driver was badly burned and taken by medical helicopter to a hospital in critical condition. Investigators are looking into what caused the crash.

The Daily Herald of Provo reports (https://bit.ly/1v272oM ) the interstate was closed for about 30 minutes, reopening about 3 p.m.

The southbound U.S. Highway 6 ramp remained closed near the scene late Friday afternoon.
