BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - The Air Force is spending $74 million to modernize the Keesler Medical Center in Biloxi.

The project is in the final design development stage. Demolition is expected to begin in December with a targeted completion date of 2017.

Col. Tom Harrell, commander of the 81st Medical Group, tells The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/10NGSKy ) the renovation will include updating existing operating room facilities as well as reorganizing the medical center so that it’s more patient friendly.

Harrell says a traditional operating room will be converted into a hybrid operating room capable of accommodating all types of surgery. Two other operating rooms will be altered to handle more outpatient procedures. A dental clinic will be added.

Harrell says to keep the facility operational departments will be relocated while others are under construction.
