BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) - A Bay St. Louis man is being held on charges of holding four people, including his wife, in-laws and 13-month-old child, at gunpoint Sunday inside a home in Kiln.

Hancock County Sheriff Ricky Adam says 33-year-old Peter Dougherty Jr. is charged six counts of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault domestic violence, four counts of aggravated assault, malicious mischief and violation of a protection order.

Adam says Dougherty had hidden in the garage while the family was away and took them hostage using a gun when they returned home. He says the father-in-law got away and called 911.

Adam says Dougherty released the hostages and surrendered about 9 a.m. to deputies.

Dougherty is being held Monday at the Hancock County Jail without bond.
