VINTON, Iowa (AP) - The Benton County Sheriff’s Office says a 12-year-old girl has been critically injured after falling into a grain wagon.

Deputies say the girl and a 9-year-old child were playing on the wagon on Sunday afternoon as the girl’s father was unloading it. They say she was nearly suffocated in 600 bushels of corn.

First responders were able to remove her from the wagon and no other injuries were reported.

The girl was taken to a Cedar Rapids hospital.

It’s unclear how she fell into the wagon. Authorities are investigating.
