ROCK GLEN, N.Y. (AP) - Animal control officers say they’re looking for the owners of 15 dogs that were found abandoned in the middle of a rural western New York road at night.

Officials tell local media that say six puppies were in one crate and nine adult dogs were either in or tied to a second one when they were nearly hit by a vehicle late Sunday night on a road in the town of Arcade, in Wyoming County’s southwest corner.

The canines have been treated by a veterinarian and are being kept at a county animal shelter. The county sheriff’s office has been notified about the abandoned dogs.

Earlier this year, local authorities charged two people after more than 100 cats were found on their property in the town of Warsaw.
