Explosion at Lapeer machine shop kills 1, hurts 3

LAPEER, Mich. (AP) - Authorities in Lapeer say an explosion at a machine shop has killed one person and injured three others.

The blast happened about 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lapeer Industries.

Police Chief Todd Alexander tells The Flint Journal (https://bit.ly/1utCdde ) that arriving emergency personnel found four people lying on the ground.

Alexander says one was dead and the others were taken to hospitals for treatment. Their conditions weren’t immediately known.

The chief says it appears that a cylindrical tank containing an unknown type of gas became over-pressurized and exploded.

The names of the victims weren’t immediately released.
