TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Freshman Democratic Rep. Donald Payne Jr. has easily won re-election to the U.S. House representing northern New Jersey.

Payne defeated Republican Yolanda Dentley in the 10th District, which includes parts of Essex, Hudson and Union counties.

Payne won a special election after the death of his father Rep. Donald Payne Sr. in 2012.

He won the general election with 87 percent of the vote in 2012 in the heavily Democratic district.
