HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Federal authorities say a prison inmate has been charged in the strangulation death of a fellow inmate in central Pennsylvania four years ago.

Forty-four-year-old Jose Caldera is charged with second-degree murder in the May 2010 slaying of 40-year-old Juan Arias while the two were in the federal prison in Lewisburg in May 2010.

The U.S. attorney’s office for the middle district of the commonwealth said Caldera is now being held in a federal prison in Colorado.

Prosecutors, who did not disclose a suspected motive, said the maximum penalty for the crime would be life imprisonment.

A public defender assigned to represent Caldera did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
