PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Six Rhode Island House Democrats were defeated for re-election, and Republicans will grow their tiny caucus in the 75-seat chamber.

Cranston Rep. Peter Palumbo lost to Republican Robert Lancia, and Coventry Rep. Scott Guthrie lost to Republican Robert Nardolillo.

Coventry Rep. Lisa Tomasso was defeated by Republican Sherry Roberts; Richmond Rep. Larry Valencia lost to Republican Justin Price; and Middletown Rep. Linda Finn lost to ex-GOP Rep. Daniel Reilly.

Charlestown Rep. Donna Walsh lost to independent Blake Filippi.

Republican representation will increase from six seats to 11.



In the 38-seat Senate, there will be no net change. Exeter Democrat Catherine Cool Rumsey lost to Republican Elaine Morgan. But Republicans lost retiring Sen. David Bates’ seat in Barrington. Democrat Cynthia Coyne was elected.

There will be five Republicans and one independent.
