MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Sheriff’s officials say a boy in unincorporated Elmore County is hospitalized after being attacked by his family’s dog.

Sheriff Bill Franklin tells WSFA-TV the young boy was mauled by his family’s pit bull Wednesday afternoon and was taken to Children’s of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham.

Officials say the boy wandered out of the house while his father was in the bathroom and was attacked by the dog.

Details on the extent of the boy’s injuries weren’t immediately available.
