Comedian Artie Lange has has been skewered on social media after issuing a series of graphic tweets about ESPN’s Cari Champion, that included sexual slave fantasies, reported several news outlets.

The approximately nine tweets range from exclaiming how  “f****** hot” Ms. Champion is, to details about Mr. Lange’s self gratification, and include a slave fantasy where he is the master and Ms. Champion is the slave (Mr. Lange is white and Ms. Champion is black), reported BuzzFeed. (Warning: The BuzzFeed report contains graphic language.)

Ms. Champion co-hosts ESPN’s “First Take” with Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith.

Twitter users expressed outrage at Mr. Lange’s statements, responded with an #iSupportCari hashtag.

“#iSupportCari because NO woman deserve such racist, sexist abuse. This is disgusting and WRONG,” tweeted user @FeministaJones, while others called the tweets abusive and called on ESPN to respond, according to the news website, which the sport’s channel eventually did.

“His comments were reprehensible and no one should be subjected to such hateful language. They objectify and demean one of our valued employees under the thin guise of “comedy” and are offensive to all of us. We will not dignify them with any other comment,” ESPN said in a statement to BuzzFeed.

The comedian later issued an apology via Twitter to Ms. Champion saying his comments were intended to be funny, and blaming “PC groups” for the backlash against him, which included a canceled appearance on a late-night comedy show.

Ms. Champion has not yet issued a response to Mr. Lange’s tweets.
