BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Backup quarterback Mark Leal has left the Virginia Tech football team.

The school says Leal informed coach Frank Beamer of his decision after practice Tuesday night. Leal has already graduated with a degree in sociology and the school says he intends to pursue a “professional opportunity.”

The redshirt senior played in 11 games in his career with the Hokies, most notably last season’s Sun Bowl when he replaced an injured Logan Thomas and struggled as Virginia Tech lost 42-12 to UCLA.

For his career, he completed 34 of 57 passes for 411 yards and three touchdowns.

Brenden Motley is now the Hokies’ backup behind Michael Brewer.
