BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - A Bay County judge has sentenced a man to prison after he left his 3-year-old son behind when he fled from police during a traffic stop.

The Bay City Times reports (https://bit.ly/10lg0Ao ) 43-year-old Johnny Street of Bay City was sentenced to between 20 months and five years in prison for third-degree fleeing and eluding police. He pleaded guilty to the charge in September.

Street also pleaded guilty to fourth-degree child abuse but received a sentenced of time served. Prosecutors dismissed counts including possessing marijuana and driving without a license in the plea deal.

Street says he ran from his car after a sergeant stopped him in April, leaving his son in a car seat. Another passenger in the car says she had met Street the week before and couldn’t believe he left his son behind.
