CHESTER, S.C. (AP) - The Chester County Sheriff says a city councilman has died after a drive-by shooting.

Sheriff Alex Underwood told local media outlets that Chester City Councilman Odell Williams was shot Tuesday night.

Underwood says no arrests have been made. He says detectives are working to locate some suspects, whom he would not identify Wednesday.

Underwood said the 70-year-old Williams was the only victim in the shooting, which he said might be gang related.

Investigators found several bullet holes in Williams’ car and 15 to 20 shell casings at the scene. They think the shots were fired from another vehicle.

Underwood said investigators have not determined a motive.

Williams was a police officer in Chester for more than 20 years.

The State Law Enforcement Division is also investigating.
