DETROIT (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking help from the public to find out who directed green lasers at its helicopter crews.

The Coast Guard says Wednesday that a crew aboard a Coast Guard Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Detroit was conducting training near Macomb County’s Lenox Township around 8:15 p.m. on Oct. 17 when a green laser was directed toward the helicopter.

At 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 20, a different crew was conducting training near St. Clair County’s Clyde Township when a green laser was directed toward the helicopter.

In both cases, the pilot and co-pilot turned the aircraft away and returned to Air Station Detroit.

That use of lasers is a risk to flight safety. During both incidents, the Coast Guard said the lasers appeared to track the helicopters.
