SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say nearly 200 counterfeit handbags were seized at the Port of Savannah.

Officials said in a statement Wednesday that 198 fake Hermès handbags destined for an Atlanta address were confiscated at the port on Oct. 6.

Authorities say the bags were shipped from China and arrived in Savannah Sept. 4. Officials estimate the bags would have had a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of roughly $1.8 million. Authorities say the bags will be destroyed.

Customs officials say the incident was the third multimillion dollar seizure of counterfeit goods this year.

In July, authorities seized 377 cartons of knock off sunglasses with an estimated manufacturer’s suggested retail price of more than $1.6 million. Officials in April seized more than $1 million worth of fake soccer apparel.
