LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Three members of a Deming family convicted of making false statements on investigation forms during a firearms sting won’t be spending any more time behind bars for their crimes.

A federal judge sentenced Rick Reese, his wife Terri Reese and their son Ryin Reese to three years’ probation Wednesday.

He ruled that the jail time they served prior to trial was sufficient.

Court documents show federal prosecutors had asked for five-year sentences.

A federal jury convicted the Reeses in August 2012.

An informant and undercover federal agents posing as straw purchasers obtained firearms from the family’s Deming store.

Those four convictions came from an initial lot of 30 charges.

Before trial, Rick Reese and Ryin Reese served about 17 months in jail. Terri Reese served about seven months.
