SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Democrats have gained a new seat in the Utah House.

Former lawmaker Brad King defeated Republican Bill Labrum by a 55.6 percent to 44.4 percent margin.

House District 69 covers Carbon and Emery Counties and was held by Democrats until two years ago.

That loss left Utah’s minority party with only representatives from Salt Lake County in the Legislature.

Democrats lost another district they had their eye on, though.

House District 54 straddles GOP-leaning Wasatch County and Summit County, where Democrats have an edge.

Republican incumbent Republican Kraig Powell held his seat.
