MADISON, Wis. (AP) - State Rep. Evan Goyke is considering making a bid to serve as Assembly Democrats’ leader.

Peter Barca of Kenosha has served as minority leader since 2011. Democrats are stinging, though, after Republicans bumped their majority in the chamber from 60 seats to 61 seats in Tuesday’s elections and with Republicans leading Democrats in two other races that were too close to call.

Barca says he worked hard for Democratic candidates and wasn’t thinking about whether he wanted to remain leader. He said it’s up to each individual to decide if he or she wants to challenge him for the post.

Goyke, who hails from Milwaukee, says he respects Barca but feels he can bring a strong voice to the table.

Assembly Democrats are set to meet Tuesday.
