BRAGGS, Okla. (AP) - The Oklahoma Army National Guard has broken ground on a new parade field at Camp Gruber.

Maj. Gen. Myles Deering used a bulldozer to unearth a 10-foot strip of earth to officially begin the construction. Officials say the field at the Joint Manuver Training Center will be the site of various ceremonies upon completion.

The original parade ground was overgrown after the camp closed in June 1947. It was reopened in 1977 as the Oklahoma National Guard’s primary training facility, and also is used by law enforcement, first responders and other military divisions.

It’s unclear when the field will open.
