PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Democrats in the Rhode Island House and Senate plan to gather to unofficially elect their leadership teams for the 2015 legislative session.

House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello, who is running again, has called a caucus meeting Thursday evening at the Cranston Country Club. The current leadership team will also be re-nominated, including John DeSimone for majority leader; Jay Edwards for majority whip; and Joseph Almeida for deputy whip.

Opposition is not expected.

The entire House will officially elect the speaker on Jan. 6, the first day of the session. Despite losing six incumbents in Tuesday’s elections, Democrats control enough seats in the 75-member chamber to elect a leader without Republican support.

Senate Democrats are also holding a caucus Thursday to select their leadership. President Teresa Paiva Weed is seeking another term.
