MEXICO CITY (AP) - Authorities in Mexico say they have captured a man wanted for a 2013 killing in Kansas and will hand him over to U.S. authorities.

The prosecutor’s office in the state of Michoacan said in a brief statement Wednesday that 27-year-old Gabino Ruiz-Ascensio was caught in the city of Zacapu. It said Mexican federal migration officials are taking the steps needed to return him to the U.S.

Ruiz-Ascensio has been charged with first-degree murder in the April 2013 shooting death of 24-year-old Adrian Peralta in Emporia, Kansas. Authorities there had offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
