ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Orange County authorities say a man suspected of killing his ex-girlfriend’s mother later killed himself by crashing his car into a wall after a short police pursuit.

The Orange County Register reported Tuesday (https://bit.ly/1y3ioHr ) that the driver died inside the car and was burned beyond recognition. His identity will have to be confirmed through dental records.

Sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock says deputies responded to reports of a shooting Monday in Tustin. Fifty-five-year-old Lahoma Ballester was found wounded and later died at a hospital.

Witness reports directed investigators to a white Chevrolet SUV, which led police on a high-speed pursuit that ended when the vehicle slammed into a wall and burst into flames in Anaheim.

Traffic investigators do not believe the driver used the brakes before hitting the wall.
