READFIELD, Maine (AP) - Police say one person was killed and two others injured in a Readfield car crash in which the driver says he swerved to avoid hitting a deer.

WMTW-TV (https://bit.ly/1x9RvSN ) reports the crash happened late Wednesday afternoon. Twenty-year-old driver Thorr Ellis of Gardiner told police he swerved to miss the deer. The car spun out, hit a boulder and flipped. A passenger who was not identified was killed in the accident. Ellis and 19-year-old passenger Bradley Plevyak were hurt in the crash.

Maine State Police are reconstructing the crash. Police say speed appears to have been a factor.
