WATERVILLE, Maine (AP) - State police say a Waterville woman is in the hospital in critical condition after getting stabbed, and authorities are seeking two other women for questioning.

Police say 24-year-old Katherine Hopkins was stabbed Tuesday night as she sat in a vehicle in the town of China. Officials said Hopkins was in critical but stable condition at Maine General Hospital in Augusta.

State police say they are searching for 23-year-old Carissa Butkewicz, and 20-year-old Tiffany Glidden, who are described as “persons of interest” in the investigation.

Spokesman Steve McCausland says investigators want to talk to the Waterville women to “get their side of the story.”

What led up to the stabbing remains unclear.
