MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities say four Shelby County Jail employees have been charged with misusing military leave.

Sheriff’s officials said Wednesday that two corrections officers, a jail processing assistant and a former deputy jailer each missed more than 20 days of work.

Stephen Vaughn, Sedric Ward, Alvin Williams and Josette Whorton were charged with theft of property after Sheriff Bill Oldham asked for an audit to be conducted in reference to the high incidence of employee absences and the possible misuse of military leave.

Court records do not show if any of the four defendants have lawyers.
