PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A day after losing a bid for the office he once held, former Providence Mayor Buddy Cianci (see-AN’-see) returned to the airwaves, thanking listeners for their support and declaring he’s not sorry for taking one “last shot” at politics.

Cianci appeared on WPRO-AM on Wednesday and invited Democratic winner, Jorge Elorza to be a guest. Cianci said the mayor-elect declined.

When Cianci returned to the radio station Wednesday, regulars greeted him with balloons, greetings and hugs welcoming him back.

Cianci criticized several people who worked against him, including Republican candidate Daniel Harrop, U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and former U.S. Attorney Robert Corrente.

Cinaci says he’s not sorry he ran the race. He says “it wasn’t meant to be.”

The ex-mayor was back from his extended leave, which began in June when he entered the race.
