HARTSELLE, Ala. (AP) - Authorities in north Alabama say a pedestrian was fatally struck by a police cruiser.

The Decatur Daily reports (https://bit.ly/1E8Kmn2 ) 71-year-old William Anderson of Cullman died at Huntsville hospital after he was hit Wednesday afternoon. Hartselle Police Chief Ron Puckett says the man crossed the street and stepped in front of a patrol car being driven by 48-year-old Lt. James Holladay of Danville.

Puckett says Holladay wasn’t responding to a call at the time of the accident and was not injured.

Puckett says he’ll likely recommend Holladay take time off after the accident.
